WIN: Vaddey Ratner’s Music of the Ghosts
On April 23, PEN/Hemingway Award finalist Vaddey Ratner will visit Magers & Quinn (3038 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis) to discuss and sign MUSIC OF THE GHOSTS (on-sale April 11; Touchstone), her powerful novel about loss, love, and newfound hope in the aftermath of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime. Vaddey spent much of her childhood in St. Paul after arriving in the U.S. from Cambodia as a refugee and attended Carleton College.
Teera, a thirty-seven-year old American, returns to Cambodia for the first time since her harrowing escape as a refugee more than two decades ago. She travels with a letter from a mysterious stranger who calls himself the “old musician” and claims to have known her father in a notorious Khmer Rouge security prison, just before he disappeared forever. Together, Teera and the old musician face the truth of their intertwined history—while a young doctor begins to open Teera’s heart to a new Cambodia.
