The West Bank Ride

This year’s West Bank ride, supported by Twin Cities LISC and the C4ward collaborative, will boast a variety of creative projects dotting the West Bank landscape for riders to participate in. A strong arts focus in 2014, the ride hopes to get cyclists familiar with West Bank destination points and comfortable cycling in the district. Cyclists will meet up at at the corner of 3rd and Cedar Ave to receive a printed map outlining routes to over 13 designated pitstops, and bike routes between them, throughout the area. Each pitstop features familiar and lesser-known West Bank landmarks, family-friendly games, open-air music, and optional scavenger hunt-style activities. Riders can accumulate stamps at stops to earn prizes to area businesses.

Before and after the event, join fellow riders for special events and food and drink discounts at the many eateries and entertainment venues throughout the West Bank. A full list of discounts and events will be posted on the West Bank Ride website (westbankride.org) and on the printed map provided to registered riders.

My top picks for featured stops include:

  • Murphy Park (behind Augsburg College): Get with the beat! – Join the Heart & Soul African Drum academy for African drumming
  • Mixed Blood: Join the UofM CHANCE program for some bike decorating, or view the local mural created by young artists from the Brian Coyle Center
  • Freewheel Bike: Take a lesson in learning to fix a flat
