Canoe River Action Volunteer Event
River Action Volunteer Events (RAVEs) are a fun way to explore the Mississippi River in a way few others do. Ride aboard a 24-foot Voyageur canoe while National Park Rangers discuss colorful Mississippi history, important geological features, birds and wildlife along the shore! Our August RAVE takes us to the backwaters of the Mississippi River. It is difficult to paddle upriver on most parts of the Mississippi, but in the calm, protected backwaters we will see a whole new side of the river. We’ll make stops on shore at areas that need significant restoration including a river island owned by the National Park Service. Volunteers will work together to clean up trash, collect native plant seeds, and remove invasive species. The physical work load is moderate and appropriate for adults and children ages 10 and up.
