Art Attack 2012

Art Attack is an annual open studio and gallery crawl at the Northrup King Building, in the heart of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. The weekend-long event features over 200 artists working in painting and drawing, sculpture, photography, custom furniture, fiber arts, metal, ceramics, glass, hand-crafted and custom jewelry, mixed media, mosaics, textiles, and more.

Art Attack is an exciting opportunity to gain admission to private studios and to buy original art direct from local, nationally and internationally known artists.

The Northrup King Building celebrates its 15th annual Art Attack with REwork Participatory Art Projects. REwork co-curators Molly Balcom Raleigh and Kirstin Wiegmann invite Art Attack attendees to see their dreams performed, explore winter hibernation positions, draw original pictures of a comic figure model, interpret a musical-text score, and more. REwork features participatory artworks by Susy Bielak, Pritika Chowdry, Robin Garwood, Emilia Javanica, Rachel Jendrzejewski, Jonathan Zorn, and Molly Balcom Raleigh. A highlight of the REwork experience will be free dessert and lively conversation on Friday night through Balcom Raleigh’s FEED/FEED. A live, life-sized video feed between the Northrup King Building and the INScape Arts building in Seattle will create a half-real, half-virtual group of dining companions. REwork features participatory artworks by Susy Bielak, Pritika Chowdry, Robin Garwood, Emilia Javanica, Rachel Jendrzejewski, Jonathan Zorn, and Molly Balcom Raleigh.

Artful Demonstrations:

  • Studio 271 – Letterpress Printing demonstrations by Angel Bomb Design
  • Studio 285 – Weaving by internationally renowned Peruvian weaver Maximo Laura
  • Studio 361 – Lithography printing demonstration on Friday evening 6-8 pm, Saturday from 2-5 pm, and on Sunday from 2-4 pm.

Other Happenings:

  • Studio 425 – Tarot readings at select times throughout Art Attack
  • Studio 406 – Astrological Birth Chart Reading, Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm
  • Studio 343 – HENNA by Judy Ostrowski throughout the weekend
