REVIEW: The New One
I know Mike Birbiglia from his stand-up Netflix specials. Others know him from NPR and his stints on Orange is the New Black and his feature film, Sleepwalk With Me. As I stood in the Ordway lobby waiting for my guest to arrive, I was rather perplexed by the diversity of the crowd entering the theater. Everyone from white-haired grannies to groups of 20-something college dudes. Birbiglia’s style of comedy is quite universal. The theme of “The New One” focuses largely on why Mike didn’t think parenting was for him. It’s a largely anti-kid show, which, as any parent will appreciate, can only be fully comprehended by someone who has gone through the experience. It’s a tribute to Mike’s comedic talents that the routine is funny for both the parent and the non-parents in the crowd. I can’t recommend this show enough, it’s a great performance with nonstop laughs and surprises.
“The New One” is at The Ordway through October 19, 2019. Tickets start at $39. Click here for info on their rush ticket program.
